The decision of the presidium of Leningrad provincial executive committee "about the building of stadium on Petrovskiy island" was signed on April 16, 1924. On June 26, 1925 were affirmed documents about the inspection of object.

On July 5, 1925 took place the first football match: the team of Leningrad beat the team of Kharkov with the score 5: 1. on July 19 the same year the past solemn discovery of the stadium im V.I. Lenin, and on July 26 - holiday dedicated to the opening of the stadium.

New "Zenit" stadium (under construction)

The new domestic arena of the soccer club Zenit St.Petersburg will be elevated on the spot the stadium im S.M. Kirov, which was being been arranged in the western part Of the Krestovsky island.

From November 15, 2005 to August 23, 2006 on the initiative the governments of Saint-Petersburg was carried out competition to the best project of new stadium. Expert commission gave preference to the project "spacecraft" of Japanese architect Kisho Kurokava.

Committee on the building of Saint-Petersburg appears as the customer of the building of new stadium. General designer of project - company "Kisho Kurokawa of architects & associates". General contractor of building - privately held company "The Engineering Corporation „Transstroy"
 

New project it provides that on the arena can once only be located 68 thousand spectators. The height of seven-storied building will compose 56,6 meters, areas of football field - 9.840 square meters. Arena will be covered with the separated roof, what will allow in the comfortable conditions (operating temperature +15°С) to carry out matches in the winter.
